Kindergarten Teacher

St. John’s Episcopal School, celebrating 57 years in Olney, Maryland, is seeking a Kindergarten teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. 

Summary Description:

The successful applicant possesses a thorough understanding of early childhood development and is able to plan and provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences for five-year-olds that are conducive to their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.  

The applicant must be able to develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of students with diverse learning needs, maintaining student interest, and providing motivation.  The candidate must be able to monitor and evaluate student outcomes through a variety of assessment techniques, maintain appropriate records, and follow required procedures and practices.  

The candidate must be a strong communicator, both orally and in writing, and be able to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community. 

The candidate must also participate fully in the life of the school, in terms of curricular work and in community activities and functions. 

Specific Skills:

  • Thoroughly understands Kindergarten curricula and best practices for delivering language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies instruction
  • Understands the reading acquisition process and confidently design and implement age-appropriate activities for beginning readers
  • Uses a variety of teaching strategies, effective lesson planning, and classroom management techniques
  • Employ thematic based instruction where appropriate
  • Competently infuse technology into the curriculum

Lower School Teacher

St. John’s Episcopal School in Olney, Maryland, is seeking dynamic Lower School Teachers (K-5).

Summary Description:

Lower school teachers at St. John’s create and maintain a learning environment in which students are challenged, encouraged, and supported.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for working with a co-teacher to plan, instruct, and assess reading/language arts, spelling/writing, math, science,  and social studies in their homeroom; integrate lessons about character throughout the curriculum, and deliver differentiated instruction for a wide range of abilities and interests. The candidate is also comfortable and excited about using technology for teaching and learning. Lower school teachers will also collaborate regularly with specialists who teach art, library, music, physical education, religion, Spanish, and STEM. The most desirable candidate will be able to demonstrate proficiency using digital and online platforms for remote instruction as well as proven effectiveness as an in-person classroom teacher.

World Language – Part-time Spanish Teacher

St. John’s Episcopal School, celebrating 57 years in Olney, Maryland, is seeking a Part-time Kindergarten through Grade 8 Spanish teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. 

The successful candidate will have native or near-native Spanish fluency and a strong understanding of Spanish grammar and vocabulary. We are seeking a candidate with excellent language skills, successful experience teaching Spanish to elementary children, strong curriculum background, and proven pedagogy skills. As the teaching of language and culture are inextricably intertwined, the candidate will be able to develop students who are both competent language speakers and enthusiastic Spanish culture learners.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Implements approved curricula to achieve student learning at appropriate standards and benchmark levels for each grade
  • Maintains a positive attitude and ensures that the classroom environment is warm, inviting, and conducive to student learning
  • Develops goals and objectives for self, group, and student academic achievement, maintaining documentation to ensure student progress
  • Provides differentiated instructional activities and projects for students
  • Completes required reports and report cards within prescribed time frames
  • Maintains appropriate contact with parents and guardians regarding student progress; arranges for and attends parent/teacher conferences
  • Fully invests in the life of the school by participating in the advisory program, social and emotional learning, weekly faculty and team meetings, as well as any and all aspects that support the student experience
