Applying to St. John’s
The goal of the admission process at St. John’s is to enroll those students who are most likely to thrive in our school environment and whose families embrace the mission and values of our school. We want to ensure an excellent match between our school and the families we serve. We try to make the application process go as smooth and informational as possible, so that you as the parent can make the very best educational decision for your child. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have along the way.

1. Schedule a tour of the campus
Contact the Admissions Office to arrange an initial visit to St. John’s. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to meet the Head of School, Tom Stevens, and the Director of Admissions, Doug Perkins. You will also tour our campus, observe classes in session, and speak one-on-one with teachers.
2. Complete the Application and Parent Questionnaire
There is a non-refundable $75 application fee for each student. St. John’s accepts checks or credit card.
Applications received by February 1 will be given first consideration, with decisions to be mailed by the beginning of March. Applications received after February 1 will be considered on a rolling basis, depending on class openings.
3. Schedule a Student Visitation/Shadow Day
Preschool/3 and 4
Preschool/3 applicants should plan to visit St. John’s where teachers will observe and interact with the children as they play with each other and assess your child’s readiness. Parents are required to stay for this visit, which will last approximately 1 hour.
Preschool/4 applicants are required to spend a morning in the Preschool/3 classroom during the school day on a mutually agreed upon date prior to the last day of school. Teachers will observe and assess your child. This visit will provide an opportunity for your child to interact with their future classmates.
Applicants will attend a Kindergarten Assessment on a Saturday, February 9 at 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. During the visit, teachers and administrators will observe and interact with the children as they play with each other. Your child will also be individually assessed with activities which will help us determine their Kindergarten readiness.
New this year: Kindergarten applicants will be required to spend time in our Preschool/4 classroom during the school week. Visits may be scheduled Tuesday – Friday at 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
If you submit your Kindergarten application after February 10, an individual assessment will be conducted during their classroom visit.
Grades 1 – 8
Students applying to enter grades 1 – 8 will come to St. John’s on a full regular school day and follow a shadow guide from their current grade. During the prospective student’s visit, the school will complete an assessment of the student’s skills and abilities.
Note: Based on the school’s assessment, additional testing may be requested.
